There has been a lot of attention in the past few years on the greening of the Academy Awards. But we have our own Green Academy Awards right here in Portland. Ericka and I attended the 17th Annual Best Awards Breakfast this morning. It was a truly inspiring event. Businesses large and small received awards from Mayor Sam Adams and Commissioner Dan Saltzman. The winning businesses are incorporating sustainable practices into their bottom line.
A few of the highlights include:
- Best Award for a very small business- Portland Hawthorne Hostel
- Best Award for a small business- Northwoods Nursery One Green World
- Best Award for a medium business- Elite Care at Fanno Creek
- Best Award for a large business- Epson Portland Inc
It was a fantastic way to kick-off Earth Day 2009!
